Modafen students were at Cappadocia, which is famous for its unique landscape of valleys and unusual rock formations, known as “fairy chimneys”. The formation of this strange landscape started during the third geological period, 60 million years ago, when Erciyes, Hasandağı and Güllüdağ volcanoes, located on the edges of this region, began erupting frequently. The deposits of volcano ash, lava and basalt laid the foundations for today’s landscape. Earthquakes and ongoing effects of erosion have contributed to form the valleys and the “fairy chimneys” that can be seen today.
The Modafen Cappadocia trip started at the Sabiha Gökçen International Airport early in the morning . The students got more and more excited when the plane landed in Kayseri, one of the most eccentric cities in Turkey. The students who went to Kayseri, first tried the delicious local meals. Our students, who enjoyed the local meals, started to visit the famous attractions of the city. Gevher Nesibe Medical History Museum, Hunat Hatun Külliyesi, Kent Museum, Güpgüpoğlu Mansion were just some of the places visited.
Our students, who enjoyed themselves at Kayseri, moved to Cappadocia, which offers a unique natural beauty. After reaching Cappadocia in luxury coaches, they started to visit the natural attractions which are of great historical value. Derinkuyu Underground City, located 70 meters under the ground, which supplies water to the city, Selime Cathedral and Monastery, preferred by the ancient people because of their height and safety, and Taş Fabrikası (Stone Factory) were among the places visited. While seeing our natural heritage, each dating back at least 2000 years, our experienced guides shared detailed information about the long historical process of the monument.
On the second day of the trip, we visited Pasabag Fairy Chimneys also called Monks Valley. Then, we visited the Avanso Pottery, which is located on the Avanos region which is divided by Kızılırmak. The trip went on with Deren Valley which is also known as Pink Valley or Dream Valley. We enjoyed the amazing view from “The Three Graces” – the only point where you can see all the fairy chimneys. The last trip was to Ihlara Valley, which is 14 km long and 110 meters high. Having finished a very long day, the participants overcame the fatigue of the day swimming in the pool before dinner.
On the last day of Cappadocia, the students were very enthusiastic while visiting Uçhisar Castle, which is the biggest fairy chimney in the region. After the castle, we visited Aşk Valley where the series “Asmalı Konak”, which used to break rating records while being broadcast, was filmed, Güvercinlik Valley, Göreme Open Air Museum and Urgup is one of the most important centers of Cappadocia region. At the restaurant we stopped to taste the local food. We tasted Testi Kebap, one of Cappadocia’s traditions and set off for Kayseri. Having bought well-known Kayseri mantı, pastrami and souvenirs, we set off for İstanbul after an entertaining and educational trip.
