We were in Thessalonica to visit our great leader Atatürk’s house on the 76th anniversary of his death.
On the 8th of November, we met at school and excitedly boarded the bus. We took a break in Kavala, one of the most beautiful cities on the Greek coast, to have breakfast and to enjoy the view. Then, we drove to Thessalonica and arrived at our hotel. We had dinner at a very nice Greek restaurant and went back to the hotel to rest.
On the second day, we met at the lobby to continue our city tour. We started our tour with the biggest cathedral of Greece, Aya Dimitros Cathedral. We saw Ottoman-Byzantine works, visited the towers, Hamza Bey Mosque, E. Venezelo-P. Konstantin Monuments, and Vardar-Makedonia-Aristoteles-Elefterios squares. After lunch and souvenir shopping, we set off to the house where Atatürk was born and spent some of his youth.
We saw Atatürk’s table, chairs, documents and personal belongings. We looked at the photos of Atatürk and the documents about his school life. There was a library as well. We felt like we were back in history around Atatürk’s and Zübeyde Hanım’s wax models.
On the morning of 10th of November, we got together in the garden of Atatürk’s house. At 09.05, we took a moment of silence, feeling pride and longing. Having visited our leader, we completed our tour.
