Directed by our drama teacher Derya Aslan, our primary school students performed one of Roald Dahl’s most famous novels, Matilda. They received huge applause with their fantastic performance.
The novel, which was made into a film by Danny DeVito in the 1990s, has received a lot of attention recently. Last year, a musical version of Matilda was produced in London. Matilda is a 4 year-old girl who can solve the most difficult Math questions, who learnt to read and write on her own, and who has extraordinary talents. However, she is also a girl who is ill-treated by her father and neglected by her mother.
Having made use of the principles from the novel, film and musical, our students wonderfully analysed characters and emotions, built up empathy, learned about stage, acting, gestures and mimics, and built self-confidence. After the play, our students shared their excitement and happiness with their parents.
