Berke Saka, our school’s 12th grade student numbered 2339 and a swimmer at the national team, will be one of two athletes to carry the Turkish flag at the opening ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, according to Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu.
Minister Kasapoğlu said on his social media account that national swimmers Merve Tuncel and Berke Saka will carry the Turkish flag during the opening ceremony on Friday, July 23.
In his statement, Kasapoğlu said, “Our youth is our most valuable asset.” At the opening ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, our gorgeous flag with crescent and star is passed to our group’s two youngest athletes. Merve and Berke, this pride is yours, and this joy is ours.”
At the opening ceremony, 18-year-old Berke Saka, who will swim in the 200-meter backstroke pool, and 16-year-old Merve Tuncel, who will swim 400, 800, and 1500 meters in freestyle, will lead the convoy.
