200 educators from all around the world have been invited to Space Academy to live an “extra-terrestrial experience”.
The academy, which can be described as an innovative organization, has been inspiring teachers to get training on science, technology, engineering and Math’s (STEM) and to acquire proficiency in these fields.
Olgun Irmak, Modafen Science and Technology Teacher, was one of the Turkish teachers who had the chance of taking part in the Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy (HESA) journey, which is a lifetime project.
This award-winning scholarship program developed with the collaboration of U.S. Space & Rocket Centre, USSR and Honeywell (NYSE:HON) inspires teachers whose fields of study are science, technology, engineering and Math’s (STEM). A challenging science and space training program, including high performance jet simulation, scenario based space mission, training on survival at land and sea, and interactive flight dynamics, is offered to the participants.
The instructors of the program have already shared their experience and knowledge with more than 2 million students since the year 2004 and have encouraged many students to take education on science and to acquire proficiency in this field. The impact of Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy program has already gone beyond the classroom, including the grants received from local and federal governments, the enrolment of students to NASA training projects, and extracurricular activities focused on STEM.
The candidates, who wanted to take part in Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy program, went through a very difficult application process. The candidates, who were accepted, were granted scholarship including round-trip plane tickets, education fees, food and accommodation. All the above mentioned expenses were covered by Honeywell and their employees.
