On March 18th, Monday, “Memorial Day for Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs” program was held at our school’s conference hall. Both the victory and the martyrs, as the most sorrowful epic in history, were commemorated
with sheer gratitude and longing.
At the beginning of the program, our Principal Mehmet Durak, Mathematics Teacher İnanç İlhan, Science Teacher Ekin Yılmaz, History Teacher Kadir Can Yetimoğlu and Social Sciences Teacher Yalçın Coşkun gave speeches, emphasizing the meaning and the importance of the day. A common theme of these speeches, “The spirit of Çanakkale” was explained with its epic events and sadness. Later, prepared by our high school students, the reading of the poem “to Çanakkale Martyrs”, written by Mehmet Akif Ersoy brought tears to everyone’s eyes, followed by the emotional scene, presented by our elementary school students as they sang Çanakkale Türküsü.
In order to have a deeper understanding of Çanakkale spirit, the letter, written by Lieutenant Mehmet Tevfik Bey, two weeks before he died was read aloud too. While the victory in Çanakkale and the martyrs were commemorated in a woeful atmosphere, our 12th grade student Yağmur Kapçıoğlu sang the folk song “Havada Bulut Yok”, which was listened with emerging tears as well.
This program, once again, reminded us of the words of Veteran Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, “The victory of Çanakkale is an example, worthy of amazement and congratulations, illustrating the spiritual might of the Turkish soldiers. Rest assured, it was this high spirit that won the battles in Çanakkale.” At the end of this rather emotional program, our Music Teacher Altun Burcu Çankaya sang her own composition, which reinforced the great passion towards Çanakkale Victory.
As Modafen family, we would like to commemorate our glorious martyrs on the 104th anniversary of Çanakkale Victory with mercy and gratitude, who protected their country and sacred values despite all costs and even gave their lives for them.
